How to Add a HITOSINO & HIKVISION Camera to a Dahua PoE NVR via ONVIF
Today, we continue our journey with ONVIF protocols by exploring how to connect Hikvision/Hitosino cameras to Dahua's NVRs.
Simply Understanding ONVIF
ONVIF (Open Network Video Interface Forum) is an international, open forum established to standardize IP-based security devices and ensure compatibility across various brands. Learn more about ONVIF.
Preparation
Before connecting your HITOSINO/Hikvision camera to the Dahua PoE NVR using ONVIF, please ensure:
- Reset Camera: Reset the HITOSINO/Hikvision camera to its factory default settings.
- Install SADP: Download and install the HITOSINO/Hikvision SADP software on your computer.
- Prepare NVR credentials: Have the username and password for your Dahua NVR ready.
- Connect to Monitor: Ensure your current system is connected to a monitor to configure settings via the Dahua NVR GUI.
Connection method
Regular connection:
Adjusted connection: switch the network cable from the NVR’s LAN port to one of its PoE ports.
This adjustment ensures your camera, computer, and router are on the same LAN, allowing direct access to the camera from your computer.
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Initialize the HITOSINO/HIKVISION Camera
1. Run SADP: Launch SADP on your computer. If the camera does not appear, click “Refresh”.
2. Activate Camera: Check the box next to your camera, enter, and confirm your password.
The pop-up window “The device is activated" means your model has been activated successfully.
3. Set “Security Question”: Click "Cancel" or set and confirm the “Security Question” for password recovery in the pop-up window. In this example, we clicked "Cancel".
Step 2: Enable ONVIF on Your Camera via Web Browser
1. Modify IP address: Refresh the list, select the camera, click "Enable DHCP" on the right, enter your password, and click "Modify”.
Refresh the page, and you will see the new IP address of your HITOSINO/HIKVISION camera.
2. Log in to your HITOSINO/HIKVISION Camera via the web browser
Double-click the IP address in SADP, then input your username and password to access the camera on the web browser.
Important Notice:
Please ensure the displayed time is accurate. If it is, you can skip this step. If it is not, follow the steps below to sync the time with your computer. Keep in mind that accurate time settings are crucial for ONVIF functionality.
Go to Configuration>System>System Settings>Time Settings, click the box next to “Sync. With computer time”, then click “Save”. Then your camera time will now match your computer’s time.
3. Enable ONVIF and create an ONVIF account
①Enable ONVIF: Navigate to Configuration>Network>Advanced Settings>Integration Protocol, and check “Enable Open Network Video Interface”.
②Create an ONVIF account:
- Click "Add" to create an ONVIF user.
- Enter the User Name, Password, and Level, then click "OK".
- Finally, click ‘Save’ to finish.
Step 3: Modify the IP Address of the HITOSINO/HIKVISION Camera via SADP
This step is vital for the subsequent setup. Keep in mind that the IP address of your HITOSINO/HIKVISION IP camera must be on the same network segment as the NVR’s built-in IP address to ensure proper communication and data transfer.
For Dahua PoE NVRs, the built-in IP address is 10.1.1.x. Therefore, to ensure your HITOSINO/HIKVISION IP camera can communicate and transfer data to the Dahua NVR, the camera’s IP address must be modified to 10.1.1.x, where x can be any number from 2 to 254, but should be unique to avoid conflicts with other network devices. Based on this, your IP address should be modified as follows:
- IP Address: 10.1.1.x (x can be any number from 2 to 254)
- Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
- Gateway: 10.1.1.1 (The last digit must be 1)
Okay, now let's start modifying the IP address.
1. Run SADP on your computer and refresh the list to select the camera.
2. Modify the IP address of the HITOSINO/HIKVISION Camera
① Uncheck “Enable DHCP” to allow manual modification of the IP address.
② Enter your desired IP address, subnet mask, and gateway, then confirm with the password and click "Modify".
If you need more detailed IP address modification videos, check out our tutorial on YouTube.
The green check mark indicates the IP address change was successful.
Refresh the page to check the new IP address of the HITOSINO/HIKVISION camera.
The following steps will be operated on your monitor of your security system.
Step 4. Add the HITOSINO/HIKVISION Camera to the Dahua NVR
1. Add Camera Manually: Go to Main Menu > Camera > Manual Add to manually add the camera.
2. Configure Camera Settings: In the pop-up window, select the channel your camera is connected to, set ONVIF as the manufacturer, and input the modified IP address and password. Click "Connect" and then"OK”.
The green status means the camera has been added successfully.
Finally, you can go to the live view to check the camera feed.
After successfully adding the HITOSINO/HIKVISION Camera, remember to adjust your system back to the regular connection.
Conclusion and Support
