  • Independent feeds — connect each PSU to a separate circuit or PDU so a single breaker trip does not remove both
  • UPS runtime — size the UPS to cover the recorder plus the switches feeding its cameras; protecting the recorder alone still loses the video source
  • Controlled shutdown — UPS signalling should trigger a graceful shutdown before batteries deplete, since abrupt power loss during array writes risks corruption

Redundant PSU availability varies by model. Confirm it explicitly rather than assuming it is standard at this channel count.

Central Management Across Multiple Recorders

A 128-channel recorder is typically one of several units in a larger deployment. What matters operationally is how those units are administered together.

Plan for:

  • Unified client access — operators work across sites from one interface rather than logging into each recorder separately
  • Role-based permissions — access to specific camera groups, export functions, and configuration changes is controlled per user
  • Centralized user directory — account changes propagate rather than being repeated on each device
  • Aggregated health monitoring — drive status, channel loss, and system alerts surface in one place across all recorders
  • Cross-recorder search — investigators locate an event without knowing which unit holds the footage
  • Audit logging — who viewed, exported, or deleted footage is recorded for compliance review

Supported management platforms, maximum device counts, and federation capabilities differ by platform version. Verify these against the actual project topology.

Specification Review Before Procurement

At this scale a specification error is expensive to correct after deployment. Before sign-off, confirm:

  1. Channel count includes margin for planned phases, not just current cameras
  2. Cabinet space, power circuits, and cooling capacity exist at the intended location
  3. Network path between camera aggregation switches and the recorder is sized and redundant
  4. Management platform supports the full device and user count across all sites
  5. Support terms, spare parts availability, and firmware maintenance are agreed
  6. Commissioning includes verified failover testing, not just a functional check
