About Dahua Full-color Cameras

How Dahua Full-color Cameras Work

Regular infrared cameras switch to black-and-white video at night. Dahua Full-color technology is designed to preserve color information in low-light scenes.

It combines three key elements:

Large-Aperture Lens

A large aperture lets more light enter the camera. Dahua's Full-color technology includes lenses with apertures as large as F1.0, helping capture brighter images in low-light conditions.

Light-Sensitive Image Sensor

The image sensor collects available light and turns it into a video image. A more light-sensitive sensor helps preserve color and detail when the scene gets dark.

Warm-Light Illumination

When there isn't enough ambient light, built-in warm LEDs provide visible light for color recording. This helps capture details such as clothing colors and vehicle colors that are harder to distinguish in infrared footage.

The result is more useful nighttime color information for surveillance and incident review.

Dahua Smart Dual Light: Three Nighttime Modes

Keeping a visible light on all night isn't always necessary. Dahua Smart Dual Light gives installers three ways to manage nighttime illumination.

1. Smart Illumination

The camera normally uses infrared light at night, recording in black and white. When its intelligent detection identifies a target, it switches on the warm light and captures the event in color.

After the target leaves, the camera returns to infrared mode.

This reduces continuous visible lighting while preserving color details during detected events.

2. IR Mode

The camera uses infrared illumination for black-and-white nighttime recording. The warm light stays off.

This mode is useful where visible light would disturb people or create unwanted illumination.

3. Warm Light Mode

The camera keeps its warm-light illuminator on during low-light conditions to record continuous color video.

This mode works well where color details are required throughout the night and visible lighting is acceptable.

The IPC-HDBW2449F-AS-IL and IPC-HDW2849TM-S-IL are examples of Dahua IP cameras with Smart Dual Light and all three illumination modes.

How to Choose a Dahua Full-color Camera

The most important decisions are how the site should be illuminated at night, how much area the camera needs to cover and whether additional security functions are required.

Choose the Right Nighttime Lighting

Start with the lighting available at the installation site.

For a storefront or building entrance that already has outdoor lighting, Full-color imaging can make use of that ambient light.

For a dark driveway or parking area, warm-light illumination provides an additional light source for color recording.

Where continuous visible lighting is unwanted, Smart Illumination switches to warm light during detected events and uses infrared during normal monitoring.

Check the camera's specified warm-light range and the lighting conditions at the intended installation point. Illumination distance is not the same as identification distance.

Match the Camera to the Area

Different Full-color camera designs serve different coverage requirements.

Fixed-Lens Cameras

The 8MP IPC-HDW2849TM-S-IL uses a fixed lens with Smart Dual Light. Its eyeball housing provides adjustable positioning for a fixed monitoring view.

Motorized Varifocal Cameras

The 8MP IPC-HDW2849T-ZS-IL uses a 2.7–13.5 mm motorized varifocal lens. Installers can adjust the viewing angle to cover a wider scene or concentrate on a smaller area.

Dual-Directional Cameras

The IPC-HDBW2449F-AS-E2-IL uses two 4MP camera channels with independently adjustable viewing directions. It can monitor two areas from one mounting location.

180° Panoramic Cameras

The IPC-PFW3849S-A180-AS-PV combines two camera views into a 180° panoramic image. It also includes Smart Dual Light and active deterrence features.

The appropriate design depends on whether the project needs one fixed view, adjustable coverage, two separate directions or a wide panoramic scene.

Beyond Full-color: Dahua Full-color Cube

In 2023, Dahua introduced Full-color Cube, bringing Full-color imaging together with wider viewing options, flexible lighting and intelligent security functions.

The ecosystem includes several technology directions:

Full-color Duo combines dual lenses to create a wide 180° panoramic view.

Full-color PT adds pan-and-tilt movement, allowing the camera's viewing direction to change.

Smart Dual Light switches between infrared and warm-light illumination based on the selected mode and detection events.

TiOC combines nighttime imaging with AI detection and active warning lights or audible alarms.

Full-color Cube describes Dahua's broader technology ecosystem, not a single camera model or a feature package included with every Full-color camera.

Dahua Full-color Camera

Dahua Full-color technology delivers 24/7 vivid color monitoring in low-light environments without supplementary light, ensuring clearer night surveillance and lower power consumption.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Dahua Full-color cameras record color video all night?

Yes. Dahua Full-color cameras with warm-light illumination can record color video throughout the night when Warm Light Mode is enabled.
Smart Dual Light also offers IR Mode and Smart Illumination. In those modes, the camera records black-and-white video while using infrared and switches to color recording when warm-light illumination is activated.

What is the difference between Dahua Full-color and Smart Dual Light?

Full-color describes the ability to capture color information in low-light conditions.
Smart Dual Light controls how the camera uses infrared and warm-light illumination. It offers continuous infrared, continuous warm light and automatic switching during detected events.
A camera can support both technologies.

What is the difference between Dahua Full-color and WizColor?

Both technologies support nighttime color imaging.

Dahua Full-color focuses on capturing color video in low light, using camera optics, image sensors and supplementary lighting.
WizColor combines large-aperture optics, light-sensitive sensors and AI-ISP processing to improve color, noise and image detail in challenging low-light conditions.
WizColor technology can be part of the wider Full-color camera range.

Does Dahua Smart Dual Light need an NVR to switch between infrared and warm light?

No. Dahua Smart Dual Light IP cameras such as the IPC-HDBW2449F-AS-E2-IL perform human and vehicle detection on the camera and control their built-in illuminators.
The illumination switching does not require an NVR to perform the detection.
For Dahua HDCVI Smart Dual Light cameras, intelligent switching uses the supported AI functions of a compatible XVR.
