About Dahua WizColor Cameras

How Dahua WizColor Improves Nighttime Images

A bright nighttime image is not always a clear one. Poor lighting can make colors look dull, hide important details and cause moving objects to appear blurry.

Dahua WizColor uses three technologies to improve low-light images:

F1.0 Large-Aperture Lens

A larger aperture lets more light reach the camera sensor. This helps the camera capture brighter images when there is little available light.

Large-Pixel Image Sensor

The sensor collects more light in dark environments, helping reduce noise and preserve image detail.

AI-ISP Image Processing

AI-ISP (AI Image Signal Processing) improves how the camera handles colors, noise and moving objects. This helps people, vehicles and other details remain easier to see in nighttime footage.

Together, these technologies improve color imaging under low-light conditions without relying solely on visible supplementary lighting.

How to Choose a Dahua WizColor Camera

The main factors are the available nighttime lighting, the area being monitored and the camera's built-in features.

Consider the Available Light

WizColor uses ambient light, such as streetlights, building lights or other nearby sources, to produce color images at night.

When the available light is too weak, the camera's built-in warm light can provide additional illumination.

For example, the IPC-HDW2849T-S-PRO has built-in warm-light illumination with a specified range of up to 30 m (98 ft).

The IPC-HDW3849H-AS-PV-PRO also includes infrared and warm-light illumination. Its Smart Dual Light function provides different lighting options for nighttime monitoring.

Actual image quality depends on the available light, exposure settings and camera position.

Match the Lens and Camera Design to the Area

The WizColor models in this collection offer different fixed-lens options and housing designs.

Eyeball Cameras

The IPC-HDW2849T-S-PRO uses a compact adjustable eyeball housing with 2.8 mm and 3.6 mm lens options.

The 2.8 mm lens provides a wider view, while the 3.6 mm lens offers a narrower view with more detail concentrated in the center of the scene.

Bullet Cameras

The IPC-HFW2849TL-S-PRO offers 2.8 mm, 3.6 mm and 6 mm lens options.

Its specified warm-light illumination ranges are:

  • 2.8 mm: Up to 20 m (66 ft)
  • 3.6 mm: Up to 30 m (98 ft)
  • 6 mm: Up to 50 m (164 ft)

The IPC-HFW2849M-S-B-PRO offers 3.6 mm and 6 mm lens options, with built-in warm-light illumination.

Lens choice affects the field of view and the image detail captured at a given distance. The stated illumination range does not represent guaranteed identification distance.

Understand the Additional Camera Features

WizColor describes the camera's low-light imaging technology. It does not mean that every WizColor camera has the same AI or alarm functions.

The IPC-HDW2849T-S-PRO, IPC-HFW2849TL-S-PRO and IPC-HFW2849M-S-B-PRO include SMD Plus and perimeter protection for human and vehicle detection.

The IPC-HDW3849H-AS-PV-PRO combines WizColor imaging with TiOC PRO active deterrence. It adds red and blue warning lights, an audible alarm, two-way audio and SMD 4.0.

These features serve different purposes: WizColor improves nighttime imaging, while SMD and TiOC provide detection and warning functions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Dahua WizColor and Full-color cameras?

Both technologies support nighttime color imaging, but they emphasize different aspects of image quality.
Dahua Full-color cameras focus on capturing color footage at night, including through supplementary illumination. WizColor uses a large-aperture lens, a light-sensitive sensor and AI-ISP processing to improve color, noise and image detail in low-light scenes.
The technologies can overlap within the same camera.

Can Dahua WizColor cameras record color video without additional white light?

Yes, when enough ambient light is available.
WizColor uses existing light to capture color images without requiring the warm-light illuminator to remain on continuously.
In complete darkness, color imaging requires additional light. The WizColor cameras in this collection include built-in warm-light illumination for dark conditions.

Do all Dahua WizColor cameras include active deterrence?

No. WizColor is an imaging technology, not an active deterrence feature.
The IPC-HDW3849H-AS-PV-PRO includes red and blue warning lights, an audible alarm and two-way audio.
The IPC-HDW2849T-S-PRO, IPC-HFW2849TL-S-PRO and IPC-HFW2849M-S-B-PRO focus on low-light imaging and intelligent human and vehicle detection without the same built-in active deterrence system.

Does WizColor improve images of moving people and vehicles at night?

Yes. WizColor's AI-ISP processing is designed to reduce image noise and motion blur while preserving color details.
This improves the visibility of moving subjects in low-light footage. However, the detail captured still depends on exposure settings, target speed, lighting and distance.
WizColor imaging alone does not provide automatic license plate recognition.
