About Hikvision Bullet Cameras

Planning a Bullet Camera Installation

Bullet cameras extend outward from the mounting surface, so their size, mounting position and bracket design matter.

For wall installations, leave enough clearance to adjust the camera's direction and access the housing during maintenance.

Outdoor network connections also need protection from moisture. Hikvision's bullet camera installation guide requires waterproof protection for outdoor Ethernet connections.

A compatible junction box can help organize and protect cable connections at the mounting point.

Bullet Camera Viewing Distance and Illumination

A bullet-shaped housing does not automatically provide longer viewing distance.

Actual coverage depends on the lens, camera sensor and available illumination.

For example, the Hikvision DS-2CD2683G2-IZS has a 2.8–12 mm motorized varifocal lens. Its horizontal field of view ranges from 108° to 30°, and its specified infrared range is up to 60 m.

The Hikvision DS-2CD2T87G2-L instead uses ColorVu imaging and white-light illumination for nighttime color video.

These cameras have similar body styles but different optical and lighting configurations.
