How Hikvision DarkFighter Technology Works
DarkFighter improves nighttime image quality by collecting more light and making better use of the available image data.
Traditional DarkFighter cameras use large, light-sensitive sensors and optimized image processing to capture clearer video in dim conditions. When the light becomes too weak for reliable color imaging, cameras equipped with infrared illumination can switch to black-and-white night vision.
This helps preserve useful details without keeping visible white lights on throughout the night.
The DarkFighter family has expanded with DarkFighterS, DarkFighterX and DarkFighter 2.0, each addressing different low-light imaging challenges.
DarkFighterX vs. DarkFighter 2.0: What's the Difference?
Both technologies improve imaging in difficult lighting, but they use different approaches.
DarkFighterX: Dual-Sensor Image Fusion
DarkFighterX uses two image sensors. One captures color information from visible light, while the other captures brightness details using infrared light.
The camera combines this information into one image, improving brightness and color detail in extremely low-light environments.
This approach is useful where nighttime color information is important but ambient lighting is very limited.
DarkFighter 2.0: AI-Enhanced Image Processing
DarkFighter 2.0 combines advanced camera optics and sensors with AI-based image processing.
Its main improvements focus on reducing image noise, keeping moving objects clearer and preserving details in scenes with strong differences between bright and dark areas.
DarkFighter 2.0 builds on the wider DarkFighter family rather than replacing every earlier DarkFighter camera.
What Makes DarkFighter 2.0 Different?
DarkFighter 2.0 introduces several technologies designed to improve video quality in challenging scenes.
SharpMotion: Less Noise and Motion Blur
SharpMotion uses AI image processing to reduce noise and blur in moving subjects.
This helps preserve details when people walk through a dimly lit area or vehicles move across the camera's view.
ShotN: Clearer Images of Targets Moving at Different Speeds
In scenes containing both pedestrians and moving vehicles, a single exposure setting can make one target appear blurry.
ShotN adjusts exposure settings for different target types to capture clearer images of both.
ShotN works when Multi-Target-Type Detection is enabled on a camera that supports the feature.
AWDR: Better Balance Between Light and Dark Areas
Auto Wide Dynamic Range (AWDR) adjusts image processing when bright and dark areas appear together.
For example, it helps preserve details around illuminated entrances, streetlights and darker areas of a parking lot.
High Frame Rate: More Detail in Fast Movement
The DarkFighter 2.0 product range includes high-frame-rate cameras capable of recording up to 4K at 60 fps.
For supported DeepinView G2 models, enabling smart video analytics limits the maximum frame rate to 25 or 30 fps. The higher frame rates apply to monitoring mode.
How to Choose a Hikvision DarkFighter Camera
The main factors are the available lighting, subject movement and the area the camera needs to monitor.
Consider the Lighting Conditions
For sites with limited streetlights or building lighting, DarkFighter's low-light sensitivity helps capture useful images without continuous visible illumination.
Where nighttime color detail is the priority, DarkFighterX uses both visible-light and infrared information to improve the final image.
For scenes with bright headlights, shadows or rapidly changing light, DarkFighter 2.0 cameras with AWDR and SharpMotion address image contrast and motion clarity.
Match Camera Coverage to the Site
Different DarkFighter cameras are designed for different monitoring distances and viewing requirements.
Fixed Network Cameras
Hikvision DeepinView cameras with DarkFighter 2.0 include motorized varifocal models for entrances, vehicle access points and fixed monitoring positions.
For example, the iDS-2CD7A47G2-XZHS(Y) is a 4MP DeepinView bullet camera with DarkFighter 2.0, ShotN and 150 dB AWDR.
Long-Range PTZ Cameras
The DS-2DE7A825IW-AEB(T5) is an 8MP DarkFighter PTZ camera with 25× optical zoom and infrared illumination up to 200 m (656 ft).
The DS-2SF8C442MXG-ELW/26 TandemVu combines a panoramic camera with a 42× DarkFighter PTZ channel. Its panoramic view provides wider scene coverage while the PTZ channel captures details in a selected direction.
The appropriate camera design depends on the required viewing angle, target distance and whether the scene needs continuous fixed coverage or movable zoom.
