Reset Method Quick Guide: Monitor vs Computer

Use a Monitor to do Configuration:
This setup is suitable for resetting via Password Hint, Security Questions, Hik-Connect App, or Email Verification.
Ideal for: Users who can directly interact with the NVR's interface

Use a Computer with SADP Tool to do Configuration:
This setup is suitable for resetting via GUID File or XML File.
Ideal for: Users who need to use the SADP tool on a computer to reset their password.
Reset via Password Hint
Requirements: Must have set a password hint during device activation. The "Password Hint"button will only appear if it was previously configured.
Steps:
1.Go to the NVR login screen.
2.Click the "Password Hint"button to view the hint you set earlier.
3.Use the hint to recall and enter your original password.

Reset via Hik-Connect App
Requirements: You must have the Hik-Connect app installed on your phone, and your device must be bound to your Hik-Connect account.
Steps:
1.On the login screen, click "Forgot Password", then select "Reset via Hik-Connect App."

2.Open the Hik-Connect app, scan the device QR code in "Figure 2-13" and obtain the verification code.

3.Enter the code , then set and confirm a new password to complete the reset.

Reset via Security Questions
Requirements: Must have set up security questions during device activation.
Steps:
1.Click "Forgot Password" on the login screen, then select "Reset via Security Questions."

Reset via GUID File
Requirements: You must have previously exported and saved the GUID file. A computer with the SADP tool installed is required.
Steps:
1.Open the SADP Tool, click Refresh, select your device, and click "Forgot Password."

Q1: Why don't I see the "Password Hint" button on my NVR login screen?
A: The "Password Hint" button may not appear for several reasons:
- Your NVR model doesn't support this feature (check your device specifications)
- Your firmware version is too old (consider updating to the latest version)
- You didn't set a password hint during device activation
- The feature may be disabled in your device settings
If the button is missing, try another reset method like Hik-Connect app or security questions.
Q2: What if I changed my phone or uninstalled the Hik-Connect app?
A: You must be logged into the same Hik-Connect account previously bound to the NVR. If that’s not possible, this method won’t work—you’ll need to try GUID or XML reset.
Q3: Can I use these methods without a computer?
A: Some methods (like Password Hint, Security Questions, or Hik-Connect App) can be done via the NVR interface or mobile app. The GUID reset method requires a computer with the SADP tool installed.
Q4: Is it safe to save GUID files on my computer?
A:Yes,but store them securely. GUID files are device-specific and contain authentication data.
Q5: What if none of these methods work?
A: Contact technical support for XML file reset or consider hardware reset (erases all settings).
